Kedai Makan Bajet di Bangsar

Rasa-rasanya, ada tak kedai yang offer untuk harga makanan termasuk minuman bawah RM 15 di Bangsar ?

Ah Bangsar! The ‘burb of a thousand flashy car owners with not a sen of sense between them. The place where it still counts to be seen.

It’s home to more urbane joints than you can shake a stick at, but what happens when you’re a lowly employee who works in the vicinity, but does not have a Bangsar-ite’s spending power? With the GST right around the corner, is it possible to spend RM15 or less on a real meal?

Happily, the answer is yes. These are the places… Unsurprisingly, none of them are in Bangsar Village. Anda Boleh mencuba di Pak Abu Café, Jalan Telawi 3.

Pak Abu Café

Café Pak Abu is a little known place located on the first floor of one of the shops on Jalan Telawi 3. The food is a bit slow, but it takes the cake for some really value-for-money home-styled Malay cooking.

Pak Abu Café is a deliciously home-styled place to eat
There are set meals at RM10 which include a drink. The choices include steamed rice with fried chicken and gulai lemak, as well as nasi goreng mamak. Both are more than passable. The gulai had the perfect balance of fire and cream, while the chicken was very nicely spiced and tender.

The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned in an aromatic rub of spices
The humble fried rice was also well-balanced in flavour, and well-spiced and salted, with shrimp, tofu, fried onions and cabbage. There is also mee goreng mamak and meehoon tomyum for RM10 and rojak special for RM8.

It felt like they used Basmathi rice for the nasi goreng mamak
